Home Heating Safety
No matter what type of home heating unit you have, always follow the manufacturer's instructions for installing, operating, and maintaining your heating appliance. It's a good idea to get acquainted with the operation of your heating unit, and with a few precautionary steps, you can reduce the chances of an accident. Have your heater checked by a professional every year before cold weather arrives. If you're a seasonal customer, you should have your equipment checked before reactivation. Natural Gas Fun Facts
Fun facts about natural gas, provided by the American Gas Association.

Be Safe When Using Natural Gas
Natural gas is a colorless, odorless fuel. When used safely, it is your best energy value. To make natural gas recognizable, a chemical is added to give it a distinctive pungent odor. A slight odor could mean a pilot light has gone out and needs to be re-lit. However, if there is a strong smell, you should open all windows, leave the building at once, and call FPUA at 466-7703 from a different location.

Fort Pierce Utilities Authority Urges Consumers To Put Safety First When Using Electricity
While electricity is one of our greatest conveniences, it is also one of our most hazardous resources, killing or injuring thousands of Americans each year. May is National Electrical Safety Month and Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) is reminding consumers that now is the time to check around their homes for electrical safety hazards.

According to the most recent statistics from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, nearly three people die each day in residential electrical-related fires and accidental electrocutions in the home. To help reduce the number of such accidents FPUA is urging increased awareness about electrical safety. “Education and awareness are the key elements to electrical safety,” said Mac Hamilton, FPUA Communications Manager. “National Electrical Safety Month provides an opportunity for us to make consumers more aware of the dangers of electricity, as well as educate them about ways to create a safe environment.”
